Silicon Integration

 RoHS Solutions

Silicon Integration has been shipping independently certified RoHS compliant assemblies since January 2005.

The RoHS directive requires the removal of six hazardous substances: Lead, Cadmium, Mercury, Chromium, Polybrominated Biphenyls (PBB) and Polybrominated Diphenyl Ethers (PBDE) flame-retardants from electrical and electronic equipment distributed in the EU and in Asia.  The deadline for compliance is July 1, 2006. Additionally, legislation known as WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment) aims to reduce landfill through recycling. WEEE registration started August 1, 2005.

Silicon Integration began the RoHS implementation process in mid 2004. Since then, we have purchased equipment, developed processes, modified our Material Management system, trained our workers, and evaluated countless suppliers of lead-free products. It became quickly apparent that RoHS compliance would be costly, and effect every aspect of our business.

Silicon Integration’s early compliance with the RoHS directive assures that our customers will benefit from uninterrupted access to the international marketplace.

We also provide our customers with support and education as required to help them achieve compliance. Services available include:

1. BOM AVL crossing to RoHS compliant components.
2. Consultation on lead-free processes and procedures.
3. Solder alloy, flux, and PCB surface finish selection.
4. DFM and defect analysis.
5. Electrical / Mechanical design.
6. PCB layout.
